VITAMIN-K S: A Fat Soluble Supplement
ALSO KNOWN AS: Phylloquinone or Phytonactone (K1) Menaquinones (K2) or Menadione (K3)

VITAMIN-K BENEFITS:
*Used to control blood clotting
*Essential for synthesizing liver protein that controls clotting
*Involved in creating Thrombin a factor in blood clotting
*Involved in bone formation and repair
*Assists in converting glucose to glycogen, then is stored in the liver
*May decrease incidence or severity of osteoporosis and slow bone loss
*May promote longevity

SUPPLEMENTAL K IS IS:
A "Non-Essential" vitamin, which means,
It can be produced from within, from the intestines
It can be destroyed by freezing and radiation and air pollution
Absorption decreases with use of rancid fats, excessive refined sugar,
antibiotics, high doses of Vitamin E, Calcium or Mineral oils

VITAMIN SOURCES:
Asparagus, blackstrap, cheese, molasses, broccoli, brussels sprouts,
Cabbage, cauliflower, dark green leafy vegetables, egg yolks, leaf lettuce,
Liver, oatmeal, oats, rye, safflower oil, soybeans, wheat, yogurt, coffee,
Bacon, green tea
K1 comes from plants
K2 are made by intestinal bacteria
K3 is a synthetic substance

DEFICIENCY SIGNS:
Abnormal bleeding and/or internal bleeding
Nosebleeds, internal hemorrhaging

TOXIC:
Does not easily occur with normal dietary intake
Can happen if syntheic K3 is taken
If taking an anticoagulant drug, talk to your doctor, as it can interfere
with these medications

TOXICITY SIGNS:
Flushing and sweating
Jaundice and anemia can also develop

RDA:
80 mcg for Males
70 mcg for Females

MORE MAY BE REQUIRED IF:
You are prone to bruise easily
You are pregnant, however too much can be toxic for the baby
You are on antibiotics. They kill bacteria needed for Vitamin K absorption
