VITAMIN-B9 Is: A Water Soluble Supplement
ALSO KNOWN AS: Folic acid, Folacin, Folate, Pteroylgutamic acid

FOLIC ACID BENEFITS:
*Assists in digestion and the nervous system
*Works at improving mental and emotional health
*May be effective in treating depression and anxiety
*Very important to the developing fetus' nervous system

VITAMIN B9 IS USED FOR
*Creating heme, an iron containing substance in hemoglobin, crucial for oxygen transport
*DNA syntheses and cell growth
*Red blood cell formation
*Energy production and the forming of amino acids

SUPPLEMENTAL-B9 IS:
A "Non-Essential" Vitamin, which means
It can be manufactured from within
Stored in the liver
Destroyed by light, heat and extended periods of storage

VITAMIN SOURCES:
Beans, broccoli, fresh green vegatables, fruit, liver, peas, spinach, starchy vegetables, sunflower seeds, turnip greens, whole grains

DEFICIENCY SIGNS:
Diarrhea, heartburn, constipation, fatigue, acne, sore tongue, cracks in corner of mouth.
Increased risk of spinal bifida with an unborn baby
Long term deficiency may result in anemia, osteoporosis, cancer of the bowel and cervix
Localized deficiencies may exist for smokers

TOXIC:
Be careful with large amounts of folic acid if you take epilepsy medication as it is possible to change its function
Too much can mask a vitamin B12 deficiency

TOXICITY SIGNS:
Regular high intake of folic acid may cause digestive upset, insomnia and energy loss

RDA:
400 mg per day
