A "Non-Essential" Vitamin, which means
It is manufactured within the body, in the intesinal flora
Can be lost in cooking when roasting
Can be lost when exposed to vinegar, baking soda
Can be lost in canning

VITAMIN SOURCES:
Beef, brewers yeast, eggs, fish, fresh vegetables, kidney, legumes, liver,
mushrooms, nuts, pork, whole rye flower, whole wheat
HIGH amounts are found in eggs, legumes, grain cereal, meat and royal jelly

DEFICIENCY SIGNS:
Nausea, fatigue, depression, personality changes, headaches, hands
tingling, frequent infections, stomach pain, sleep disturbances, muscle
weakeness
Deficiencies are exceptionally rare

TOXIC:
Does not appear to be toxic
Taking 1500 mg per day over an extended period may cause sensitive teeth

TOXICITY SIGNS:
Diarrhea, digestive disturbance and water retention were reported on doses of 10 g per day


RDA:
1.7 mg per day for infants 0 to 6 months
2 mg per day for infants 7 to 12 months
3 mg per day for children 4 to 8 years old
4 mg per day for children 9 to 13 years old
5 mg per day for adolescents 14 to 18 years old
5 mg per day for adults 19 and older
6 mg per day for pregnanct women
7 mg per day for breast feeding women
