VITAMIN-B1 Is: A Water Soluble Supplement, Insoluble in Alcohol
Also Known As: Thiamine or thiamin and aneurine hydrochloride

VITAMIN B1 BENEFITS:
Plays an important role in helping the body metabolize fat and
carbohydrates, to produce energy
Essential for normal growth
Helps maintain proper functioning of the heart, nervous and
digestive systems
It may help with depression, memory and learning
It is required for growth in children
May assist in arthritis, cataracts and infertility

SUPPLEMENTAL B1 IS:
An "Essential' vitamin, which means
It cannot be produced from within, or not in sufficient amounts
It must be found in food or supplements
Thiamin is destroyed in cooking
Soda is alkaline and destroys thiamin



VITAMIN SOURCES:
Bananas, beans, beef liver, egg-yolk, legumes, nuts, peanuts, peas,
pork, seafood, sunflower seeds, wheat bran

DEFICIENCY SIGNS:
Lack of B1 will result in beriberi

Minor deficiencies include: extreme fatigue, irritability, constipation,
Edema, enlarged liver, forgetfulness, gastrointestinal disturbances
Nervousness, numbness of hands and feet, pain, sensitivity, poor
Coordination, tingling sensations, weak and sore muscles,
General weakness and severe weight loss
Intake may be low if your diet is high in refined foods

TOXIC: Toxicity is uncommon as excesses are readily excreted

TOXICITY SIGNS:
However, long term use of 3grams or more have been known to cause
Toxicity

RDA:
1.4 mg per day for males
1.0 mg per day for females
50 mg is usually used in supplementation, which has been shown
to have an increase in mental acuity

MORE MAY BE REQUIRED IF:
You drink alochol
You take antacids / birth control
You take hormone replacement therapy
You suffer from depression or anxiety
You pass larger volumes of urine
You are suffering from an infection
